Hourly Events - up to 75 guests.

Weddings - we can host up to 150 guests for a wedding, however, more than 75 guests will require the additional rental of a tent. Tent rental is separate from the Hill House contract and the responsibility of the client.

We aren't able to hold dates unless a contract has been signed and a non-refundable deposit has been paid. Once the contract has been signed and your deposit is received, your event is reserved on our calendar.

All hourly rentals must factor in set up and clean up time to the total hours rented. Our weddings packages already include designated set up and clean up times.

Yes, wine and beer may be served as long as alcohol coverage is included on your event liability insurance policy and you adhere to all local laws and regulations. If liquor is going to be served, you will also need to obtain a single use ABC permit.

Hourly Events: a licensed bartender is recommended but not required UNLESS liquor is being served then it is required.

Weddings: a licensed bartender is always required if any alcohol is being served.

No, we want you to use the vendors that you feel the most comfortable with and best fit your style. However, we are more than happy to recommend our favorites!

Weddings: Caterers must be licensed and insured and a licensed bartender is required if alcohol is being served.

All clients must have Event Liability Insurance in the amount of $1,000,000 and Hill House Durham must be named as an additional insured on the policy. If you are planning to serve alcohol, you will need to include that option on your policy .

While we do not offer in-house planning services, our Director of Operations will meet with you to talk through all the things you need to consider when planning your event at Hill House. We are also happy to recommend one of the event planners we work with.

Yes, as a historic venue, we do have several. No decorations may be permanently attached to the walls, ceilings, or woodwork. Only flameless candles may be used in the house and on the veranda. No smoke machines, fog machines or cold sparklers may be used indoors. No rice, birdseed, confetti, glitter, or sparklers are allowed indoors or out. 

We have 13 parking spaces in our lot, plus one handicapped parking space. There is street parking available on both Cobb and Proctor Streets.

The porches and the first floor of the house are accessible via a ramp. We also have a handicapped stall in our main restroom. The upper floors of the house are not accessible by wheelchair.

We offer a 25% discount to nonprofit organizations as well as all members of the Junior League of Durham & Orange Counties. 

We also offer a 10% discount to first responders and active members of our military community.
